Product Accessibility

Aktiv Learning believes that every student deserves an equal experience in STEM education. As a company, we are striving to ensure that our product and digital platforms deliver an inclusive learning environment for all students, including those in need of accommodations or those with disabilities.

Current Support & Plans

Our chemistry product, Aktiv Chemistry, is currently offered for instructors and students on three digital platforms: a web application for desktops and laptops, a native iOS mobile application, and a native Android mobile application. Aktiv Learning has achieved product compliance with the WCAG 2.1 Level AA Standards for student accounts on all three digital platforms with a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) now available.

Aktiv Chemistry offers instructors the ability to assign students a variety of assessments that may be delivered in both timed and untimed environments. The platform offers a multitude of question types such as standard multiple choice and numerical entry formats, as well as more discipline-specific types such as chemical equations, dimensional analysis, and drawing of Lewis structures. Instructors on the Aktiv Chemistry platform can determine which question items support accessibility features, such as compatibility with screen readers, by noting the accessible question icon in the instructor problem library. For all timed assessments, Aktiv Chemistry can automatically set a percentage of extra time for any individual student who needs accommodations. Additionally, Aktiv Chemistry now offers any instructor user to request a printed copy of a platform assignment for the purpose of accommodating student accessibility needs. Our new math product, Aktiv Mathematics, is undergoing product compliance work to meet the same standards as Aktiv Chemistry. Additionally, we are continuing to assess, audit, and enhance our current product for compliance for instructors with the WCAG 2.1 Level AA Standards and students with future WCAG standards. This web page will be updated with new information such as our VPAT for Aktiv Mathematics and other accessibility product roadmap information as they become available.

Any user of Aktiv Learning’s digital platform is encouraged to report any accessibility issues, questions, requests, or recommendations to our support team by writing to accessibility@aktiv.com. All support requests will be answered within 24 hours, and most requests during business hours are responded to within 1 hour.
